Artist Bios

PUBLIQ Access is designed to promote new works for the string quartet and highlight the voices of today’s innovative emerging composers at the formative point of their careers. PQA is genre-independent and supports under-represented music in the string quartet repertoire regardless of style; including jazz, world, improvised, non-notated, and electronic music. Each PQA cycle culminates in a high profile showcase concert in New York City featuring the chosen compositions. Each concert features an open discussion between the audience and distinguished composers, performers, and academics. This year we are honored to have Marcos Balter and Tania Leon on the discussion panel!

The Curtis Stewart Ensemble explores a space between era & style, creating dialogue between Western European, BeBop, Post Bop, Hip Hop & Contemporary Classical music. Curtis has been hailed by STRAD, Jazz Times & DownBeat magazines holding his audiences “spellbound” with his “warm clear sound…sparkling rhythmic energy”, “soulful improvisation” & “prodigious technique”. The aim of this project is to find the violin’s place not only in Classical music & Jazz, but as an instrumental “voice” in music from around the world & through time. This concert program will feature original compositions & songs exploring our conception of Time, Color, History & Love, as well as intricate arrangements of Jazz standards & music from the Classical cannon such as JS Bach, John Coltrane, Anton Webern & Outkast.
